Titans Owner Defends Club's Transparency Amidst Coaching Accusations
In a heated exchange on live radio, Gold Coast Titans co-owner Bec Frizelle stood firm against accusations from Broncos legend Corey Parker, who had alleged that the club blindsided new head coach Josh Hannay with a potential demotion clause. Parker's comments sparked a heated debate, with Frizelle defending the Titans' transparency and honesty.
The controversy arose from reports suggesting that Hannay's contract included a clause allowing his demotion to an assistant coach position if the club secured Craig Bellamy as its head coach. Despite initial uncertainty, the Titans reconfirmed their commitment to Hannay, emphasizing their pursuit of the best coaching talent without compromising transparency.
Frizelle, in a statement on SEN Radio, addressed Parker directly, asserting, 'We would never operate dishonestly or lack transparency with our incoming coach regarding any matters.' She emphasized the Titans' commitment to straight-shooting and transparency, ensuring that both Hannay and Bellamy were fully informed.
Parker, however, had previously suggested that Hannay would be blindsided if the reports of the Titans' interest in Bellamy were true. He expressed concerns about Hannay's awareness of the potential clause, stating, 'Hannay, while on holiday, expressed ignorance of the contract's clause.'
The Titans eventually clarified the situation, addressing the media storm and providing much-needed clarity. However, the future of skipper Tino Fa'asuamaleaui remains uncertain, with reports linking him to the Perth Bears and Melbourne Storm due to a clause allowing him to explore the open market.
Frizelle, when asked about the Perth Bears' interest, remained confident, stating, 'I'm not overly worried about the Perth Bears.' She acknowledged the challenge of asking players to relocate, considering the time difference and travel, but expressed confidence in the team's current dynamics.
